Companies Hiring Kosher Caterers for Holiday parties formerly known as Christmas Parties.
With employee contra employer lawsuits running rampant in the modern era many civic minded employers are going the extra mile to ensure that all employees are included in the fun of a holiday party. Only a few short years ago most companies hosted annual Christmas parties which left out a good 20% of the workforce for many companies. Stastisticians were able to compile research results which indicated a pattern of stagnant productivity, decreased loyalty to the employer and even a higher turnover ratio on or shortly after holiday parties. The report they compiled was titled: "Ethnic Diversity in the Workplace" and it illistrated a pattern of holiday blues amongst many non-christian employees. What the diversity report seemed to suggest is that there has always been a plethora of diversity in the workplace and in fact 20% of employees who refuse to participate in holiday parties are not only Jewish people who do so based on religious observance and kosher requirements but also Muslims, Atheists, Hindus, Buddhists, and employees from roughly 500 or so other religions who do not feel comfortable going to a company party that has a contrarian religious philosophy. Since the publishing and HR sharing of the ethnic diversity report many companies have taken drastic steps to cater to the feelings and needs of the employees in the 20% bracket. One company based in Brookline, Mass with over 1200 employees (name withheld) had the HR department review the ethnic diversity report and decided to make some changes to its annual Christmas party. Now instead of calling it a Christmas party they call it the company holiday party. The company took the measures one step further when they decided to hire an east coast kosher cartering company to provide kosher food that was enjoyable to all employees. The kosher food was enjoyed by Muslims (who call there kosher diet Hallal), and Jews alike. The company was amazed that the other 80% of the employees (the workers with no special dietary requirements) did not even notice that it was kosher and in fact many of them commented on the gourmet quality of this years: BBQ Beef, Tilapia, Chocolate Cake, Cabernet Sauvignon, Crackers with Cavier etc. Since the company made these and a few other HR recommended changes turnover has decreased by almost 20% and they were recently invited to be traded in an ethically responsible mutual fund which was recently touted on NPR...
Over Half of all Israeli's Watch Food TV
Israelis seem to have caught up with Americans and other Westerners in watching cooking and food TV shows. 56% of Israelis watch television cooking and food shows, according to a CA Marketing Research Institute survey. This in the spirit of the popularity of the Food Channel in the US and food shows in other countries, but few countries can boast such a large market share as Israelis. Chef Chaim Cohen is the best-regarded chef, followed by Chef Yisrael Aharoni. The survey found the cooking and food shows fascinate a wide audience. They survey included 500 men and women aged 18 and above from a representative geographical dispersion. A breakdown of viewers of cooking shows by gender, age group, and religious observance was as follows: 64% of women and 47% of men; 60% of people aged over 50, 60% of people aged 30-49, and 43% of people aged 18-29; and 65% of traditional Jews, 59% of secular Jews, and 29% of religious and haredi (ultra-orthodox Jews). The most popular chefs were Chaim Cohen 29%; Yisrael Aharoni -19%; Tsachi Buchester 16%; Gil Hovav 12%; Moshe Segev 3%; and Nir Tzuk 2%. 19% of respondents had no preference. Although Israel is made up of a melting pot of Jews from around the globe, Israeli are increasingly of the opinion that Israel has a national cuisine, although most surveys differ on exactly what the definition of Israeli cuisine is. Excluding the estimated 1 million Jews from the former Soviet Union, the largest group of Jews comes from Arab countries, with a decidedly more Mediterranean cuisine. So what is the Israeli national cuisine? Like most other Jewish answers, it depends…
