Cook Up an International Food Day October 22
(Fort Lauderdale, FL) September 11, 2007 – The 1st International Olive OilFest 08 and Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, have cooked-up an International Food Day to be held October 20 during the 22nd Annual Cinematic event, October 11- November 15.
FLIFF 2007 serves up a smorgasbord of films at Cinema Paradiso, beginning with 10AM family film, THE LEGEND OF SASQUATCH, and continuing throughout the day and evening with more adult fare including fascinating documentary LOST AND FOUND IN MEXICO, Dan Marino produced drama, starring ????? (Memoirs of a Geisha) SHANGHAI HOTEL and Brittany Snow (Hairspray) in an intense drama about deception and exploitation, ON THE DOLL.
The culinary delights will be from 2:00pm through 9:00pm outside the theatre on the Paradiso Patio. Provided by area restaurants, the menu will include cuisine prepared with a variety of olive oil from around the globe and representative of the country or region from one of FLIFF’s upcoming festival films. For example films from Italy, such as the sexy romp, MANUALE D’AMORE 2, might be represented by an Antipasto or foccacia bread made with Olevano Brand Olive Oil; a Greek film, such as the upcoming film URANYA might introduce you to a hummus or salad made with Ariston; an Israeli feature, like comedy SHE’S GOT IT might be a Falafel or Tabbouleh Salad made with IsRoil Brand Olive Oil, and so on.
Jay Shapiro, director of the Olive OilFEST08, and Hal Axler, director of operations at FLIFF, agree that the opportunity to combine film and food, from around the world, will provide an added sensory experience to the enjoyment of both events. The two organizations were introduced by Fort Lauderdale businesswoman M.E. DePalma, a longtime supporter of FLIFF.
The International Food Day serves as a prelude to the 1st International Olive OilFest 08, held March 8-9, 2008 at War Memorial Auditorium. The event will feature over 250 different brands of olive oil from around the globe with complimentary products such as tomatoes, pesto, pasta, wine, tapas, cosmetics, breads, and organic food products. The fest also offers live music, dancing, cooking demonstrations, an olive oil tasting competition, a recipe contest and for those who prefer something more unusual, there will be International sporting demonstrations such as Italian olive pit spitting, bocce ball, Turkish olive oil wrestling, Argentine Tango Performers. And, FLIFF will host a special foreign film mini fest, at nearby Cinema Paradiso, to pay homage to some of the countries represented at Olive OilFest 08. For details visit: www.OliveOilFest.com
The highly anticipated 22nd Annual Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival (FLIFF 2007) reels out over 200 top new indie films from the U.S. and around the globe, and brings in over 100 special guests. Celebrity sightings create an aura of excitement around the month-long fest. Film Premieres and exclusive screenings, as well as parties and receptions aboard yachts and at some of Fort Lauderdale’s trendiest clubs and restaurants, offer opportunities to meet both moviemakers and actors alike. Dates for FLIFF 2007 are October 15 – November 11 with the official opener on October 19. FLIFF is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit dedicated to bringing independent films, unique cultural events, outdoor movies, benefit film premieres, special advance screenings and special guests to Broward County at their year-round art-house Cinema Paradiso and at other venues throughout the year.
